What can I say about this beauty. A stunning Burr Elm Bowl bowl from a lump of burr elm that another maker had discarded. I seen the possibility of the wood, and in spite of, or maybe because of the voids from bark inclusions and partial decay the resulting piece is a testament to the perfect beauty of imperfection. The piece is approx. 23cm dia. and 15cm high,

I think all Irish hardwoods are all beautiful and this Burr Oak just reinforces my opinion, even with the holes left by bark inclusions falling out. This has been turned wet to a finish. The piece then dries over a few days and distorts wonderfully. The result is a unique combination of the ruggedness of the burr, the distortion of the shape, and contrast of textures. A naturally occurring crack has been made into a feature by tying with a leather cord.

A definite favourite as new, but even more special as time passes and it shows the marks of past usage, where each knock maybe recalls a family story or event. An heirloom of the future.
