Artist Statement
My work exists in the space between the ordinary and symbolic, where familiar forms,
animals, and fragments of nature become vessels for layered meaning. I am interested in
how objects and figures, when set against rich textures and patterns, carry both
personal and collective memory.
I use portraiture not only to represent individuals, but also to explore inner states of
being. The figures I paint often carry an intensity, as though they are in dialogue with
something unseen. Everyday motifs, such as a raven, a bitten apple, or a strand of pearls,
become archetypes that speak to themes of resilience, desire, fragility, and
transformation.
Colour and texture play a vital role in my process. Bold hues, delicate patterning, and the
contrast of softness against sharpness mirror the complexities of identity and lived
experience. Each piece is both a personal narrative and an invitation for viewers to
project their own interpretations, recognising parts of themselves within the imagery.
Ultimately, my practice is about honouring the dualities of life- the beautiful and the
unsettling, the fragile and the powerful, the individual and the universal.
