Looking after the soil during the winter months is very important, adding organic matter is key to building healthy soil.
What I have always done was add betterplants pellets these are high in organic matter that will keep the worm population happy and leaving the soil more fertile come spring.
Adding granular seaweed will make a massive difference to the soil, replacing nutrients in the soil that were used during the growing season.
- Remove any weeds and roots,
- Add these both into the soil.
- Rake in well
- Cover the soil with cardboard and some extra soil or weed control
