Cyanotype of Poppies #6
Inspired by the incredible beauty of nature I have made these beautiful cyanotype prints of Ireland’s Wildflowers. Unique handmade print.
Cyanotype printing is one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which gives us the word blueprint. The process involves brushing on cyanotype sensitiser onto watercolour paper, arranging the leaves and exposing to ultraviolet light, then washing in water to fix the image. Magic!
Print size 12″x 12″ . Signed by the artist. Ready for framing.

I bought a camera in 1984 and I’ve been making photographs ever since. My work is a creative response to where I live, and is also an exploration of the photographic medium – I’m constantly looking for new ways to express what I see and experience. Since 2020 I’ve been recording so-called ‘weeds’ using camera-less techniques of scannergrams and cyanotypes, bringing to light the incredible biodiversity under our feet and highlighting the profound healing power of Nature. I’ve exhibited my artwork extensively nationally and internationally, and in 2023 some of my series ‘Weeds’ has been shortlisted in the Royal Photographic Society 165th International Photography Exhibition. The shortlist was narrowed down from 5205 photographers to 416 from 41 countries. My photographs are in the collections of the National Gallery of Ireland, Office of Public Works, Northern Ireland Civil Service at Stormont, Limerick County Council and Offaly County Council as well as many private collections. My book ‘Observing Offaly’ was published in 2016.
